The beloved Isak Heartstone troll in Breckenridge is about to get a new friend in Teller County. If you haven’t encountered Isak Heartstone before, here’s what you need to know: He’s a 15-foot wooden troll created with locally sourced scrap wood and materials by Danish recycle artist and activist Thomas Dambo. Isak is one of the many art installations that has made Dambo’s work famous worldwide. Now, the Gold Camp District Impact Group (gcDIG), a nonprofit charitable organization, is preparing to welcome its own troll to the Cripple Creek and Victor communities in southern Teller County. In late June, Dambo announced a new project called “Way of the Bird King,” in which he road trips from Vermont across the country to Washington and builds 10 trolls and thousands of birdhouses along the way. GENOA, Neb. — In a remote patch of a long-closed Native American boarding school, near a canal and some railroad tracks, Nebraska’s state archeologist and two teammates filled buckets with dirt and sifted through it as if they were searching for gold. They’re trying to find the bodies of dozens of children who died at the school and have been lost for decades, a mystery that archeologists aim to unravel as they dig in a central Nebraska field that was part of the sprawling campus a century ago.People toting shovels, trowels and even smaller tools are searching the unmarked site where ground-penetrating radar suggested a possible location for the cemetery of the Genoa Indian Industrial School. Genoa was part of a national system of more than 400 Native American boarding schools that attempted to assimilate Indigenous people into white culture by separating children from their families and cutting them off from their heritage. And the discovery of more than 200 children’s remains...A cherry pie that’s as sweet (or sour) as you want it to be

Because, while cherry pies made with frozen fruit are perfectly delightful, nothing beats the juicy bite of seasonal cherries, baked until syrupy and wrapped in a buttery crust. The only question is, sour cherries or sweet? You can make this recipe using either kind of cherry, with a few small adjustments. To play up the acidity of mellow sweet cherries, I stir the grated zest and juice of a lemon into the fruit. Lime also works, adding floral notes along with its bite. You can skip this step with sour cherries, which are born zippy.Sour cherries do need mor...Authorities seek public's help locating 34-year-old woman missing out of L.A.
