Letters: Time for a shake-up. These narcissistic two parties have lost their way

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 19:16:18 GMT

Time for a shake-upIf there ever was a time for a shake up in our political system it is now.The Republican Party is in complete disarray. First time in modern day history a Speaker of the House is voted out. The former president is under indictment yet leading in the polls. The Democratic Party supports a president who doesn’t seem to comprehend the disaster he created by his open border policy. His reckless pullout of our military in Afghanistan, leaving our elite military equipment to our enemies, was a catastrophe. Worse yet he abandoned our Afghan allies who supported us and are now being slaughtered. What is needed in our country is an American party that brings us back to sensibility and our great potential. Haven’t we seen enough of this two-party narcissistic system who have proven they have lost their way?G. Average delay per flight in the EU soars by over 400% as Europe’s airspace capacity struggles to keep up with demand

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 19:16:18 GMT

Brussels, 11 October - The gap between airline demand and the capacity of Europe’s airspace is in danger of never closing as EU member states again failed to provide adequate airspace capacity in 2022. The latest annual report of the Single European Sky’s Performance Review Body (PRB) shows that delays “significantly exceeded the target” and there was a 400% increase in the average delay per flight. The report documents a continued failure of member states to meet agreed performance plans for European airspace. The situation is unlikely to get better any time soon as the PRB repeats a recommendation from last year that member states need to step up and take action now to avoid future capacity gaps. Combined with strong traffic numbers and robust passenger demand, there is a perfect storm that will continue to impact airline operations and needlessly inconvenience millions of passengers. This could easily be avoided if member states used all means available to them to improve systems ...

The divisive new building under construction for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art might be a bit different from what was publicized when it was approved a few years ago.Earlier this month, architect Peter Zumthor told the New York Times that construction issues with the project in Mid-Wilshire forced some alterations to his design. One of the larger issues mentioned in the piece relates to the challenges of building on a site adjacent to the La Brea Tar Pits. “They had to double [the foundation] in some areas, because this was so soft, the tar in the earth," Zumthor said.LACMA Director Michael Govan told the Times the foundation and other issues have increased the price of the project from about $650 million to $715 million, a 10% increase. With more money going toward the foundation, cuts had to be made, meaning the Wilshire Boulevard-spanning David Geffen Galleries structure "has been simplified and stripped down," as story author and architecture critic Christopher Hawthorne de...
