Denver weather: Afternoon thunderstorms will raise risk of flooding, mudslides Partly cloudy skies allowed sunshine Tuesday morning around metro Denver, warming saturated soils, and rain in the afternoon and evening will boost moisture, according to the National Weather Service.Meanwhile, air pollution was approaching unhealthy levels, prompting state health officials to declare an air quality “action day” alert for Denver and Colorado’s northern Front Range (Boulder, Weld, Adams, Denver, Jefferson, Douglas, Arapahoe, Broomfield and Larimer counties).Bursts of heavy rain over Colorado’s Front Range mountains, foothills and high plains along the Interstate 25 corridor could lead to sudden flooding in low areas, weather service forecasters said. The strongest storms could bring up to an inch of rain in 30 minutes and sudden gusts of wind. Debris flows and mudslides are possible on the formerly forested foothills burned in 2020 by the Cameron Peak and Calwood fires. California threatens Gov. DeSantis with kidnapping charges after migrants flown to Sacramento Officials were investigating Tuesday whether Florida's Gov. Ron DeSantis was behind a flight that picked up asylum-seekers on the Texas border and flew them — apparently without their knowledge — to California's capital, even as faith-based groups scrambled to find housing and food for them.About 20 people ranging in age from 21 to 30 were flown by private jet to Sacramento on Monday, California Attorney General Rob Bonta said. It was the second such flight in four days.Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg and faith-based groups who have been assisting the migrants scheduled a news conference Tuesday morning.Meanwhile, California Gov. Gavin Newsom lashed out at DeSantis as a “small, pathetic man” and suggested the state could pursue kidnapping charges.DeSantis and other Florida state officials were mum, as they were initially last year when they flew 49 Venezuelan migrants to the upscale Massachusetts enclave of Martha’s Vineyard, luring them onto private jets from a shelter...

Hollywood actors guild votes to authorize strike as writers strike continues Actors represented by the Hollywood union SAG-AFTRA voted Monday evening to authorize a strike if they don't agree on a new contract with major studios, streamers and production companies by June 30. The strike authorization was approved by an overwhelming margin — nearly 98% of the 65,000 members who cast votes. The guild, which represents over 160,000 screen actors, broadcast journalists, announcers, hosts and stunt performers, begins its negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers on Wednesday, over a month after the Writers Guild of America began striking over its own dispute with AMPTP. If the actors union ultimately moves forward with the strike, it would be limited to television and film productions; news and broadcast work would not be directly affected. At stake is increased base compensation, which actors say has been undercut by inflation and the streaming ecosystem, the threat of unregulated use of artificial intelligence, benefit plans and th...

Our Spidey senses never stopped tingling.Energized by a thrilling pop-art style, the sequel to Into the Spiderverse showcases a vast inventiveness that makes it stand out amidst the crop of recent Marvel entries. It’s a film that takes the genre to new heights, thanks to a trio of directors (Kemp Powers, Joaquim Dos Santos, Justin K. Thompson) and a pair of writers (Phil Lord, Christopher Miller) who realize that with great power comes great responsibility–and with worthy sequels comes the need to push the boundaries even further. If the Oscar-...
